Politics of numbers: the Wazobia lies.

There was no geographical entity or sovereignty called Nigeria before 1914. Therefore it is unclear when Nigeria came to be colonized by the British imperialists. Also, it is rather fallacious or subjective to analyse the strength of the ethnicity, in terms of population, of one section or tribe in the so-called Nigeria from the colonial and post –colonial era without any recourse to the majestic pre-colonial era of the more established ethnic groups now forcefully situate in Nigeria project. It suffices then to add that the biased yet forcefully imposed Wazobia philosophy of the so-called three major ethnic groups in Nigeria is not a pre-colonial orientation but a colonial on-slaught on the perceived 'stubborn' ethnic groups by the British, which has left sad legacies, even to this present day. Our problems today were cast in our colonial past.

Consequently, there were smaller or rather not so established groups that were politically empowered by the colonial masters-greatly due to their Willy submissiveness. These groups suddenly found themselves with so much power and sought to do whatever it took to continue from where their masters left off.

Today, Nigeria's political history with its multifaceted myriads of social-economic and developmental problems can be traced to the caricature social-political foundation, a legacy established by the British. That is why state creation has become a venture, which seeks to continue the political domination of the rest of the country. There are major ethnic groups in Nigeria as purported and now taught by the Wazobia three- Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba, and as seen in the lumping of other several ethnic groups into geo-political zones.

Now, do the political math; are the Hausa the major tribe in the North-East, North-Central or North-West? What about the Yorubas, are they the only ones in the South-West or the Igbos the only tribe in the South- East?

Again, if there are over 250 spoken languages in Nigeria with a population of over 150 million people, is anyone suggesting that the Wazobia three put together are over a 100 million people? Do the math and you will see it is just a numbers game. It is therefore fallacious to use state creation as a mean of increasing the population of the 'Wazobia three'. The idea now is to create more states in any of the geo-political zones and it would either be; one more for the Hausa (North), Igbo (South-East) or Yoruba (South-west). It is on this formula they share the resources and manpower quota at the expense of justice and fairness. Are we one people in one nation?

Nigerians can no longer endure such ultra-ethno-ideological philosophy of domination because its orientation is colonial and a hindrance to the general development of the entire country. We must not wish away the myriads of problems it has stamped on the overall growth and advancement of the people. Politics of numbers as it were is a colonial mentality and it is seen in; our inability to organize genuine census to determining our actual population, our inability to get competent manpower to run the affairs of government and its functionaries, our inability to make or rather establish firm nationalistic ideologies for growth, poor distribution of educational infrastructure, our inability to sustain the cultural heritage of the people of today's Nigeria… I maintain, the politics of numbers is a Wazobia three lies and should be challenged.

It is no longer a mirage that the level of mistrust has assumed frightening heights in the country amongst the various ethnic groups today.

However, I see hope, a stem in the tide. We must deliberately challenge ideologically these hydra-headed 'demon' that has held our development down! We need a sincere people's of Nigeria referendum because we were all 'forcefully amalgamated' as one in the first place. It is also imperative that we study our demographic history well. Therefore, I repeat, we need a referendum, so as to champion a modern day course for Nigeria, this time, not under colonialist antics but to chart a new course in peace, freedom and liberty. If the present political class fails to unite the country in this regard, poverty will. If they are capitalising on the fragile unity as a result of our ethnicity, poverty will form Nigerians into a united force that no one, not even the world's turbulent history has ever seen or recorded.

October Rain

BENIN CITY; That it has rained almost consistently for the past one week in the ancient city of Benin, were the King lives is an understatement. what seems to be the source of concern by all, is that, it is October and the volume of rainfall that should be reaching its crescendo seem to be at its peak-the kind experienced in the months of June and July only. Just a few days ago, 25th of October to be precise, the amount of rainfall which was preceeded by thick dark-cloud blanketed the entire atmosphere of the ancient city. Then came the floods, pouring onto every available course as though it was not only raining down from the atmosphere but also spewing out from the ground. Day did not only turn to night, for that was not the only elemental drama but cars soon became jammed in hold-up,while others were simply swept away by the floods. That day, hundreds of people trekked home defying the almost end-of dayslike flood of biblical proportion to their various destinations within the metropolis. I too was caught up in all these, first in the office, were I had to contend with rain-water pouring into my office and then on my way home, trekking in an exodus-like scenerio...Just then, a young woman mused,Benin sef, na soso Irregular thing dey happen for here, which kind rain be this? but i said to myself, still heavily been beating by the merciless downpour, irregular rainfall in October, could this be global warming effect in our beloved City?hmm.

Not an Economy!

Nigeria is not an economy!this is based on a conjectural research conducted by me over time.no offence Nigeria has the potential to be one of the largest markets in the world and one of the largest and sustainable economies of the world.now the point is; an economy  where the significant percentage of the unemployed is not known, where there are less and less jobs annually, soaring populations yet the actual number is not known- what that means is we do not have proper records of births and deaths, where there are less and less industries-meaning our industries are folding-up and there is little or no new investments, where the import to export ratio is almost 9:1-meaning there are more imported products, which implies that productivity level is very low i.e. insignificant!, the manpower developmental drive is in a state of total
"breakdown"- by this am referring to the educational sector where irrelevant curriculum is still been imparted,no wonder the high of dependency and unemployment! The list of how Nigeria is failing is endless but like  i said earlier we have the potentials to be greater and a major world economy. Government should just forget all these number craps of vision 2000 and vision 202020 and act now but philosophically, ideologically, pragmatically, decisively, theologically and wisely, etc pulling all the resources together within a time frame that must commence from now until things improve.for example government should stop saying power will become stable in 2012 and all the gimmicks but first tell us what PHCN's problem is and start to act.well i posit now just like i commenced, a society that wallows in barbarism and obsolete ideologies and yet besorted with those aforementioned problems is not an economy that can advance our beloved country to the very next positive and sustainable level.long live the great people of Nigeria in their perseverance and resilience!

the british media

I have admired and followed the British media particularly, BBC radio service and much later BBC world and skyNews both satellite tv channels since i was little boy.Nothing fascinates me more than the professional exactness by which the broadcasters present the news with candor and a masterful presence.......the daring reportings, particularly at war times, the unfolding stories, interestingly bold interviews, etc. There is something however i find disturbing about this "ferocious" media.I think it pays no attention to God and tries deliberately or ignorantly to disconnect itself from the truth of the core values of the christian faith.now this again became evident during the pope's (papal visit) to the Uk.The reporters kept repeatedly trying to undermine the papal visit by reminding everyone they interviewed how they felt to hear of the cases of peadophile priests, if the hierarchy of the church had failed to do something about it and what "their faith"  meant while posing as fair and balanced.I rather consider those questions openly faithless, irelevant and an attempt to smirk the confidence and faith of the attendees and viewers allover the world but thankfully there is God's grace and the britsh catholics were just too excited to notice the aversion to things of God by their media.... anyway i pray that the british people will have their faith revitalised and hold on to it while those who had left would return.I know too that God will fight His battles and restore all things. The west should learn to talk about GOD again everwhere including the so-called sercular western and british media and the she will once again experience a never ceasing grace.
