October Rain

BENIN CITY; That it has rained almost consistently for the past one week in the ancient city of Benin, were the King lives is an understatement. what seems to be the source of concern by all, is that, it is October and the volume of rainfall that should be reaching its crescendo seem to be at its peak-the kind experienced in the months of June and July only. Just a few days ago, 25th of October to be precise, the amount of rainfall which was preceeded by thick dark-cloud blanketed the entire atmosphere of the ancient city. Then came the floods, pouring onto every available course as though it was not only raining down from the atmosphere but also spewing out from the ground. Day did not only turn to night, for that was not the only elemental drama but cars soon became jammed in hold-up,while others were simply swept away by the floods. That day, hundreds of people trekked home defying the almost end-of dayslike flood of biblical proportion to their various destinations within the metropolis. I too was caught up in all these, first in the office, were I had to contend with rain-water pouring into my office and then on my way home, trekking in an exodus-like scenerio...Just then, a young woman mused,Benin sef, na soso Irregular thing dey happen for here, which kind rain be this? but i said to myself, still heavily been beating by the merciless downpour, irregular rainfall in October, could this be global warming effect in our beloved City?hmm.
